In addition, many program evaluations don’t take into account that employees who participate in wellness programs are likely healthier, to begin with.

So, do workplace wellness programs work? Unfortunately, the answer is a little complicated. While there’s evidence that these programs can improve employee health and well-being, the savings they offer employers may not be as significant as initially hoped. However, workplace wellness programs can still be worth the investment with careful planning and execution.

There is a fair amount of research on the efficacy of workplace wellness programs, but it’s not always conclusive. A study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, for example, found that while workplace wellness programs can lead to weight loss and reductions in blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and glucose levels, the effects are generally modest.
