Marketplace Chaplains, America’s largest and original workplace chaplaincy organization, awarded North Carolina Chaplain Tony Wilson the 2015 Chaplain of the Year honor during the recent Marketplace Business Leaders and Friends Gathering at the Cove.

Wilson was honored with the ministry’s highest individual award for his selfless service and going beyond the call of duty to serve others.

“His calm demeanor and genuine concern for others has guided many of our team members through dark times,” said Jeff Akins, Division President of David Weekley homebuilder, who nominated Wilson for the award.

“He is always willing to go the extra mile. Tony has reached across many miles to offer support to extended family members. There seems to be nothing Tony won’t do to bring the Lord’s comfort to those that need it.”

Wilson has been a Marketplace Chaplain since 2006 and received the Max Griener statue, The Devine Servant, and $1,000 check. His wife Caroline was with him when he received the award for long tenure and service.

“I stand here representing hundreds and hundreds of people just like me who serve every day for the sheer joy of helping others,” Wilson said. “These last nine years have been the greatest joy that any man expects on this earth.”

The North Carolina pastor has served a variety of local companies providing hope, healing and help to client company employees and their family members.

“This award to Chaplain Tony is symbolic to the thousands of Marketplace Chaplains who compassionately and professionally give of themselves to employees in the Marketplace. Just like all of our chaplains, it is clear Tony has a continual deep lasting impact on those he has selflessly served. I congratulate Tony Wilson, our esteemed 2015 Chaplain of the Year,” said Doug Fagerstrom, Marketplace Ministries CEO and Executive President.

Wilson is a North Carolina native who received a bachelor’s degree from Campbell University in 1974 and a Master’s Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1978.

“I had only been at David Weekley for a few months, but Tony Wilson has had a huge impact on my life,” said one David Weekley employee. “I always look forward to his visits. He has prayed with me, for me, and for family members.

“Tony Wilson is indeed a gift to our family and is considered a friend and a significant person of loving support,” another nomination read.

“He is a friend, confidant and advisor,” Akin added.

North Carolina chaplain coordinator Luke Witte oversaw his first training and Eastern Regional Vice-President Shane Satterfield has overseen his ministry in North Carolina.

“Tony has consistently served with excellence in all of his duties as a chaplain and completely embodies the expression of someone that always goes the 2nd mile,” Satterfield said.

“This year’s selection for Chaplain of the Year couldn’t be a better representation of what a true, committed, and trusted chaplain should be.”
