Marketplace Chaplains Help Address the Transformations of the Modern-Day Workplace
Texas golfer Jordan Spieth rewrote large portions of the Masters’ record book as the 21-year old became the second youngest player ever to win golf’s most prestigious tournament this month.
Just as the golf world is embracing younger champions, a Texas-based organization is embracing newer technology and cutting edge processes to reach the millennial workforce.
Marketplace Chaplains, the nation’s largest and original workplace chaplaincy organization, is using new technology like iPhone applications and worksite video conferences to reach the employees of the 21st Century. Now, in its 31st year, Marketplace currently has over 2,900 chaplain caregivers serving in over 670 worksite locations in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific, helping 162,517 employees and 451,797 of their family members.
Organisational Solutions, a global consultancy specializing in organizational design, development and change solutions worldwide, published an article titled “Workplace Transformation and the Changing Nature of Work,” by Audra Lee,1 which listed four major driving factors of the transforming workplace: globalization, technology, workforce expectations, and the re-design of the workplace, some of which the Marketplace Chaplains are seeing firsthand.
“…The nature of work is changing, and this is impacting where and how people work together. Managers need to better understand how to lead in this environment, and employees need to better understand how to collaborate and work together effectively,” Lee wrote in her article.
“We have chaplains here (corporate headquarters) all the time; however with the growth of our business and the diverse locations and products we have, it’s critical that our employees are able to reach them at all times in a variety of different manners and platforms,” said Encore Wire CEO Daniel Jones.
One of the major new technologies being utilized by Marketplace Chaplains is the iPhone and iPad compatible ‘My Chap,’ application which is available for free for Marketplace client companies at the Apple App store and is now in version 2.11. With this app any Marketplace Chaplains client company can access their chaplains via their Smartphone or tablet by providing their company ID, and employees can immediately access their chaplain via text or email, make a call, schedule an appointment or request a resource, 24/7 nationwide and in Canada.
In addition, employees are also able to access a wide variety of workplace resources through the Worklife Growth Series which focuses on topics such as balancing work and family, communication and better listening skills, dealing with workplace change, etc., aimed at strengthening today’s workforce and providing a great venue for Chaplain-employee engagement.
“Certainly having chaplains in our workplace is one of the better human resource and human relations decisions we have made,” said Roger Burdick, President of Driver’s Village, the largest automotive group in central New York, and a decade long client of Marketplace.
“Our trained and dedicated chaplains are committed to helping others, and these new technological initiatives are helping them meet the needs of not only the millennials, but employees of every generation, as they face the daily challenges of life,” said Gil A. Stricklin, Chaplain and Founder of Marketplace Chaplains.
