Contention Between Supervisors And Employees Leads To Worker Unhappiness
A recent Glassdoor.com company survey published in Forbes Magazine revealed companies that landed on the “Worst Places to Work” list do so because of a lack of felt connection with management. That’s exactly the reason why several companies on the Texas “Top 100 Companies” list and on the national “Best Companies to Work For” list have added company chaplains as part of their extensive employee benefits.
Texas-based client companies, Pioneer Natural Resources, Huffines Auto Dealerships and David Weekley Homes, were all named as the “100 Best Places to Work,” each while using the strategic initiative of Marketplace Chaplains in their individual companies.
The Glassdoor survey found that the average CEO popularity rating was just 67% and that 55% of their employees listed disliking their job with the top reason being that they don’t like their supervisor. More than 500 company CEOs in the U.S., 4 foreign countries and 1 commonwealth have turned to utilizing Marketplace Chaplains’ unique strategic initiative for their companies.
“There are some situations we as dealers just aren’t best able to engage in without expert advice and help,” said Ray Huffiness, who oversees 8 North Texas dealerships which sold more than 13,000 cars last year and employs hundreds of employees.
“We strongly believe in training our people to improve their overall performance and value to our organization and to themselves,” he added.
Business psychologist Robert Hogan recently presented his research findings at the American Psychological Association Annual Conference and stated that 75% of working adults say the worst aspect of their job – the most stressful aspect of their job is their immediate supervisor.
David Weekley, Chairman of the Board of David Weekley Homes, one of the largest home builders in Texas, has been a repeat winner of the “Forbes Top 100 Companies to Work for in America,” and has cited the Marketplace Chaplain service as one of the reasons.

Orlando, Florida-based Regal Marine Industries, Inc., one of the nation’s largest privately owned boat building companies, annually requests their 600 employees to grade and evaluate all the benefits the company offers.
In its most recent survey, Regal Marine employees ranked chaplains as the number one benefit, with three of four workers ranking it as the best benefit offered by the company. “The highest ranking (from our employees) speaks volumes about its benefit and value to our employees,” a Regal executive said.
Austaco, Ltd. operates more than 60 Taco Bell franchise locations in the South and Central Texas area. When Marketplace Chaplains were first introduced to the company, it had a turnover rate of 300%.
