|Dick De Witt appointed as new President and CEO
The Governing Board has appointed Richard S. De Witt as the new President and CEO of Marketplace Chaplains beginning Monday, April 19, 2021. Reverend De Witt previously served as President and COO of Marketplace Chaplains for nine years and brings a wealth of experience to his new position. For more than thirty years, he was a successful business executive, eventually as President of his institutional food brokerage company, serving clients from New York to Florida. Additionally, for two decades De Witt ably served our country as an Air Force Officer, culminating his duty in 1992 as the Deputy Base Commander at Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station with 1,100 personnel.
Reverend De Witt’s life philosophy is to “give back,” and he has practiced this caring approach throughout his leadership roles in business, the military, and in ministry. He was a Rotarian, serving as their President, Chairman of their Rotary Foundation, and a Paul Harris Fellow.
De Witt has achieved his greatest significance through his faith and his family. For the past 52 years, he and his wife Marvel have faithfully served God together. In their life they have had great joy and great sorrow. Tragedy struck their family on August 14, 1997, when a drunk driver took the life of their 26-year-old son, Kurt. Daughter, Amy, after a 4 ½ year battle, succumbed to soft cell sarcoma on May 8, 2020. They cherish their son-in-law, J.P. Mahaffey and three grandchildren, William Addison, Grace Elizabeth, and Andrew Stewart.
Dick and Marvel have been members of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano since 2006 where he recently completed his two-year assignment as Deacon Chair to 210 deacons serving 43,000 members. As a dedicated Christian, Reverend De Witt has committed his life to favorably impacting the lives of all people for Eternity. He strongly believes in the mission of Marketplace Chaplains. He states, “Each of us carries our worries and concerns to work. Through the past year of the pandemic, we have grieved over sickness and loss, isolation, financial struggles, and so much more. Amidst all the suffering, our chaplains continue to engage with those they serve by providing real help, hope, and care to each employee. With God’s help, I am humbled and challenged for the opportunity to lead this outstanding team of men and women.”
Founded in Dallas, Texas, on January 1, 1984, Marketplace Chaplains has expanded every year for the past 38 years and today serves every state in the country as well as many companies in Canada. Founder Gil Stricklin’s visionary leadership and willingness to obey God’s call, along with support and encouragement from his wife Ann, fueled him to persistently present the idea to business leaders for years. Now, over 1,750 chaplains from California to Massachusetts, provide personal care for 1,138,553 employees and family members.
